CHRISTMAS DAY CELEBRATION 2020

Christmas Celebrations 2020 at Nirmala Convent School An abundance of Joi- de vivre' permeated the virtual Christmas celebration of Nirmala Convent School. A sense of unrestrained enthusiasm was unleashed in the students as the primary, secondary and higher secondary sections were seamlessly interspersed to rejoice and celebrate this wonderful time of the year. The celebration was held on 22nd December to herald the winter vacations. A programme with the duration of two hours was compiled with a mixed bag of medley of carols- both vocal and orchestra, dances, solo singing, skits and dramatisation of the scene of nativity. Cheerful invitations were dispatched to the students through class groups. The primary wing was to join in the festivities at 9.30 a.m. ; the secondary and higher secondary at 11.30 a.m. Soon enough, the expectant students logged on to the program full of anticipation to listen to the host teachers compere the entire show in their inimitable style and charm. The show began with the Prayer Service in the sonorous voice of Sr Valsa, our respected Principal. The opening note of the prayer service was to make this Christmas a ‘ glorious transforming" , ‘inspiring' and ‘personal' one. Using the metaphor of a candle, Sr Valsa stressed on how a lone candle shines in the darkness, how a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle and how Christmas is glorious when we share the light. The hymn ‘ Carry your Candle' reiterated this sentiment. For the message from the Principal's desk, Sr Valsa spoke of the need of salvation for humankind. She urged upon each one of us to close the gate of hate and open the door of love. In the present situation of a covid ravaged world what was most relevant was her urge to demonstrate endurance and strength. ‘ What can take your love away? Nothing, absolutely nothing!’ – was the peppy dance, kindergarten students performed in the sweetest manner. ‘ Glad Tidings of Christmas ‘ by students of class 1 was pleasing to the eyes as the little ones danced adorning themselves in pretty attire swaying to the beats of Western and Indian Classical dance forms. Students of class 7 had a bevy of dancers performing exquisite ballet as they enacted. the prelude to the scene of nativity. ‘ The prophesy is fulfilled, and He shall be called The Prince of Peace- Let us rejoice greatly' was the note on which the play concluded. The short video presentation of ‘ The Miracles of Jesus' by the students of class 10 had a strong visual impact. A self composed solo recitation ‘ Pandemic Christmas’ by Anushka Dutta, class 10 was quite amusing. The spirited dance put forth by students of class 5 ‘ Santa Tell Me If You Are Really There' created a light and joyful ambience of Christmas celebration. ‘ Santa's Secret Gift' by the students of class 9 was the entertaining re-enactment of ‘ A Christmas Carol ‘ by Charles Dickens with a twist. Finally the exhilerated audience got to savour a group song ‘Gloria' presented by their dear teachers. Various competitions were conducted for the students from classes 7 to 12. Prize winning entries of Christmas tree and Wall decoration; Wreath making, Crib making and Greetings card making were displayed through a video compilation. Time tripped on by rosy wings and finally the splendid show came to a finale. A team of dedicated students guided by their teachers made this celebration possible without any technical snag. Everybody bade adieu with buoyed spirits looking forward to the partaking of the joyous season that lay ahead.
